OCBC strikes a chord with business and music

OCBC Group CEO Samuel Tsien tried his hand at conducting the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra at a unique staff leadership programme recently.
Some 30 senior management from the Bank's overseas branches and subsidiaries, Bank of Singapore, Great Eastern Holdings and OCBC Wing Hang Bank attended the session.
The two-hour "Sounds of Leadership" programme held at the OCBC centre aims to give a new perspective to leadership and teamwork by drawing a link between music and business.
The orchestra's associate conductor, Ian Woodward, who is also programme director for the Advanced Management Programme at Insead used real-time analogies to illustrate some important lessons. Participants were seated among the musicians as they performed.
They experienced close-up the importance of collaboration, communication and innovation to achieve high performance results within a dynamic team.
It ended with the senior management team performing a chorus accompanied by the orchestra.
About 110 senior management from OCBC have attended these programmes so far.
