Optus in A$20m Townsville city 'smart cities' project

TELCO Singtel's Australian subsidiary Optus said it won a A$20 million (S$21.2 million) deal with Townsville City Council to improve its communication and information technology capabilities over five years.
Optus will work with the city council to "design and integrate connectivity, data and analytics, sensor networks and smart phone applications".
Billed as a "smart cities" development, Optus will, among other things, improve the city's connectivity to water and wastewater treatment facilities so they can be better managed remotely, especially during extreme weather events.
Singtel last traded at S$3.73.
