MAINBOARD-LISTED Perennial Real Estate Holdings and Hong Kong-based Shun Tak Holdings have donated five million surgical masks to the National Council of Social Service to aid in the fight against Covid-19, the companies said in a joint release on Wednesday.

Perennial and Shun Tak, which have collaborations in both Singapore and China, contributed three million and two million masks respectively, secured through their combined network in China.

The masks will be distributed to social service agencies and homes, including welfare homes, disability homes, and children and young persons' homes.

Shun Tak's contribution was made through its Singapore entity, Shun Tak Residential Development.

Perennial, which operates the Perennial International Health and Medical Hub in Chengdu, had already been procuring surgical masks directly from certified Chinese manufacturers for the hospital's use, it said. Perennial's chief executive officer Pua Seck Guan said the company hopes to inspire others to "tap their overseas network to secure the much needed healthcare and medical-related supplies for Singapore to overcome this unprecedented event".

Perennial shares were trading at 63 Singapore cents as at 10.01am on Thursday, down 0.5 cent or 0.8 per cent.
