SABANA Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust (Sabana Reit) will install rooftop solar panels at five of its properties in Singapore, in an agreement with a Keppel unit.

The installations – at 2 Toh Tuck Link; 8 Commonwealth Lane; 23 Serangoon North Avenue 5; 39 Ubi Road 1 and 51 Penjuru Road – are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of next year, said the Reit manager on Friday (Dec 8).

Those solar panels will be deployed and maintained by Keppel EaaS, with an estimated solar generation capacity of 2.4 megawatt-peak (MWp).

“The average solar power generation will be more than 2,700 megawatt hour (MWh) per year,” said the manager, noting that this capacity is sufficient to power over 800 three-room HDB flats for a year.

It is also expected to reduce over 27,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over the project lifecycle of approximately 25 years for the properties, equivalent to the carbon abatement of planting more than 19,000 trees, added the Reit manager.

This is the second phase of a sustainability partnership that was launched on Mar 30. Of the four properties in the initial phase, three – 10 Changi South Street 2; 34 Penjuru Lane and 3A Joo Koon Circle – have completed installation of rooftop panels.

“The expected turn-on of solar generation is in December 2023, subject to authority’s approval,” the manager noted.

It added that the solar panel installation at 1 Tuas Avenue 4, which is currently undergoing an asset enhancement initiative, is scheduled after its temporary occupation permit is obtained in the first half of 2024.

The Reit will have an overall installed capacity of 7.1 MWp and potentially generate more than 8,400 MWh per year if both phases of solar panel installations are completed.

“By Q4 2024, majority of the Reit’s multi-tenanted properties will be covered by renewable energy,” said the manager.
