Scoot: No data breach in e-mails mistakenly sent for Guangzhou flight

SCOOT on Tuesday clarified that an e-mail meant for passengers booked on flight TR100 from Singapore to Guangzhou was mistakenly sent to other customers who were not on the flight.

TR100 is scheduled to depart Singapore on Aug 30 at 5.15am. The e-mail was meant to inform passengers about new travel requirements for the flight.

A spokesperson for the airline said in a statement that Scoot is investigating the matter and will provide an update on the findings when possible.

"For now, it has been established that there was no data breach or leak of personal information," said the budget arm of Singapore Airlines.

The spokesperson added that "many" individuals received the e-mail erroneously, although it did not specify a number.

Netizens had posted on social media and online forums about the e-mail they received, speculating whether Scoot's database had been hacked or if the messages were phishing attempts. Their screenshots of the e-mail showed booking confirmation numbers.

"Scoot sincerely apologises for this oversight and our highest priority is in establishing what transpired and rectifying the errors," the airline's spokesperson said in the statement.
