Self-exclusion system for non-casino gambling
SINGAPORE residents can now apply to voluntarily exclude themselves from selected non-casino gambling venues with the launch of a centralised self-exclusion system.
Those who want to avoid using their phone betting accounts with Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club or who want to stay away from the jackpot rooms in social clubs - as well as the casinos - will need only their SingPass to make one application online, instead of at separate venues.
The Responsible Gambling Forum (RGF) launched the centralised system yesterday at the start of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week.
Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing called on non-casino gambling operators to get on board.
Only 12 out of 73 non-casino operators are in the system now; nine more will join in August. They are expected to improve responsible gaming capabilities through staff training.
RGF co-chair and Singapore Pools' chief executive Tan Soo Nan, explaining the low participation rate, said: "Some of them are small operators. They'll need time to see what kind of resources they need for the training programmes."
He said it is only a question of time before more join, as it is in their business interest to do so.
