Sembcorp building plant to turn waste into energy
$250m Jurong Island steam project will be completed in early 2016
SEMBCORP Industries has started building its largest energy-from-waste (EfW) plant here.
The $250 million project on Jurong Island, to be completed in early 2016, will be the first to use industrial and commercial waste to produce steam for supply to companies on the island, said the energy, water and marine group yesterday.
Sembcorp's executive vice-president and its head of utilities, Ng Meng Poh, said: "The facility will provide a reliable, economical supply of steam to serve our customers' needs, while helping them to reduce their carbon footprint."
