SEMBCORP Industries is partnering with Gentari, the renewable energy arm of Malaysia’s Petronas, to explore potential collaborations and business activities related to clean energy solutions.

Gentari chief renewables officer Low Kian Min said on Wednesday (Jul 5) that the strategic partnership looks to accelerate the expansion of renewables and hydrogen-related initiatives.

Both parties have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the tie-up. As part of the MOU, Gentari and Sembcorp will work together to accelerate clean energy adoption by looking at how renewable energy is traded in South-east Asia or other mutually agreed locations.

They will also look at the development of low-carbon hydrogen production facilities, as well as joint studies on transporting hydrogen to Singapore from Malaysia.

“The collaboration underscores the strong potential of Malaysia’s fast-growing renewables sector,” said Koh Chiap Khiong, Sembcorp’s Singapore and South-east Asia chief executive.

Shares of Sembcorp were trading 0.4 per cent or S$0.02 lower at S$5.66 as at 1.55 pm on Wednesday.
