THE health of Singapore's marine and offshore engineering industry hinges on its ability to weather industry cycles. To do so, the sector needs to cultivate flexibility in its workforce to adapt to changing demands of the marketplace.
That is also one key takeaway from the recent sectoral downturn - industry players need to ensure their capabilities can apply in new markets such as in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) segment with opportunities having dried up in existing ones, which include the rig-building segment.
