THE digital payment app of DBS , PayLah!, was on the blink for about two hours on Friday (Oct 20) morning, but service was restored just before noon.

At 12.51 pm, the lender announced that the app’s services had returned to normal as at 11.40 am.

It had earlier announced on Facebook at 10.03 am that access to the app was “intermittent”. Checks by The Business Times at that time found that when users tried to log in, an error message saying “Your session has timed out” would appear, preventing the log-in.

The bank had said then that its customers could still use the DBS Digibank app to make payments via the Scan & Pay function, or make payments with their DBS and POSB debit or credit cards.

It also said that users who were able to access PayLah! and are eligible for its DBS “5 Million Hawker Meals” cashback will receive their rebates by Friday.

Since Feb 10, the first 100,000 users to pay for hawker meals with PayLah! on Fridays have received a rebate of up to S$3 from the bank. DBS had said in February said that about 11,600 hawker stalls islandwide, including those in coffee shops and JTC industrial canteens, are taking part in the programme.

The latest disruption comes after an earlier incident on May 5, when DBS customers were similarly unable to use the PayLah! app, as well as the bank’s other payment methods and its physical ATMs. The bank later said that the May disruption was caused by a systems issue unrelated to its “5 Million Hawker Meals” programme.

On Sep 26, DBS customers were also unable to make payments using PayNow with the PayLah! app for almost two hours, with transactions held in a pending status days after. The Monetary Authority of Singapore said that it is following up with the lender to get to the bottom of the incident.

DBS shares closed down 0.3 per cent or S$0.09 at S$33.08 on Friday.
