SGX RegCo chair Tan Cheng Han joins WongPartnership as senior consultant

PROFESSOR Tan Cheng Han has joined WongPartnership as a senior consultant and its fourth senior counsel, announced the law firm on Wednesday (Oct 4).
Aside from being a professor of law and chief strategy officer at NUS law school, Prof Tan also chairs the Singapore Exchange Regulation (SGX RegCo).
WongPartnership said Prof Tan will not be involved in any SGX matters in his role with the law firm.
Before his current role as SGX RegCo’s first chairman, he served as a director of several listed entities, including Chuan Hup Holdings and Keppel Real Estate Investment Trust.
He was also a director on the boards of ST Aerospace, ST Marine, and NTUC Income.
Prof Tan obtained his Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge in 1990 and was appointed a senior counsel at the age of 39.

WongPartnership noted that this made him the first academic with an active counsel practice to be so appointed.
“As a distinguished individual and a leading advocate of good corporate governance, Prof Tan’s knowledge and expertise will undoubtedly elevate our legal offerings and our value propositions to our clients,” said WongPartnership’s chairman and managing partner Ng Wai King.
Prof Tan’s prior public appointments include deputy chairman of Sport Singapore and the SGX’s listing advisory committee, as well as on the boards of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority.
He also served as the dean of the City University of Hong Kong School of Law, where he was also chair professor of commercial law.
