SHELL and its consortium partner Busways on Monday (Aug 7) announced an electric vehicle (EV) charging system targeted at heavy-duty commercial EVs such as electric buses and trucks.

The charging system is a proof-of-concept showcase demonstrating the deployment and maintenance of high-powered EV charging systems in Singapore. It is able to deliver up to 360 kilowatts (kW) of charging power, Shell said.

The showcase, established on Jun 28, is currently located at Woodlands Spectrum. It aims to demonstrate not only the capabilities of the EV charging systems within space constraints, but also a charging station management system that provides energy management and fleet management solutions addressing different levels of grid constraints.

Shell and Busways are currently accepting corporate inquiries for trial tests of e-buses, e-trucks and other heavy-duty EVs to test the EV charging system’s capabilities.

It also plans to work closely with some original equipment manufacturers to look into best practices to install, operate and maintain high-powered EV chargers in Singapore’s climate.
