SIA-backed Vistara charts international flight path, to benefit from Jet's collapse

WITH a firm eye on global expansion, Singapore Airlines' (SIA) Indian unit, Vistara, started flying its first international route this week to Singapore ahead of launching flights to Dubai and Bangkok later this month.
While its overseas ambitions have been a long time coming, Vistara's launch of international flights in the wake of Jet Airways' recent collapse is fortuitous timing. In fact, Vistara is seen as benefiting significantly from the vacuum, both internationally and domestically.
Jet's exit has created an opportunity for carriers such as Vistara to accelerate its growth plan by launching flights to Singapore from both Delhi and Mumbai - routes incidentally that are also served by SIA. IndiGo too is joining the fray with flights to Singapore, Bangkok as well as additional flights to Dubai.
