MALAYSIAN theme park developer and operator Sim Leisure Group (SLG) on Wednesday (Nov 1) announced it will be opening a theme park in Kuala Lumpur.

In a bourse filing, SLG said the theme park – Escape Park @KL Base – will include both an adventure park with 70 games and activities, as well as 200 themed accommodation for guests.

The attraction will sit on a land parcel at KL Base, an interim initiative prior to the construction of mixed-property project Bandar Malaysia.

Its development will be completed in three phases within five years, said the group.

The first phase will see the construction of 30 games and activities, around 300 campsites, chairlift and auxiliary facilities, and 50 themed rooms. These are slated to open to the public in the first half of 2025, said SLG.

The project will help SLG grow its revenue stream while further elevating its status as the “leading integrated operator of environmentally sustainable retro-eco theme parks” based in Malaysia, it said.

The agreement is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of the company for FY2023, it added. “Nonetheless, the group expects the Escape Park @KL Base to contribute positively to the performance of the group in the future.”

Sim Leisure is the owner and operator of the Escape outdoor adventure and water theme parks in Malaysia. It has also completed projects such as the thematic design of certain zones at Universal Studios Singapore.

Shares of SLG closed flat at S$0.36 on Wednesday, before the announcement.
