Singapore and US cities in inaugural city Wi-Fi roaming pilot project
Add BT as a preferred sourceSINGAPORE and US cities have joined hands for an inaugural city Wi-Fi roaming project.
Under this trial, rolled out by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) in partnership with the Land Transport Authority, telco M1, Sentosa Development Corporation and Singapore Telecommunications, selected US visitors to Singapore can connect to Wireless@SG via the SIM-login feature for the first time.
The feature will be made available from Aug 22 to Sept 21.
By simply performing a one-time set-up on their SIM devices, T-Mobile US subscribers can connect automatically to Wireless@SG at around 290 hot spots in the designated test areas - Sentosa and major MRT stations.
The trial is taking place in conjunction with the Wireless Broadband Alliance City Wi-Fi Roaming Project. Singapore visitors will be able to roam automatically and securely between free public Wi-Fi hot spots in San Jose, San Francisco and New York during the same period.
IDA assistant CEO Khoong Hock Yun said that trying out the SIM-login method for foreign visitors is something new, and it hopes to gather new insights, fine-tune technical challenges and enhance the Wireless@SG programme further.
