Singapore listcos disclose fuller emissions data, but how useful are the numbers?
PIECES of the puzzle depicting the carbon footprint of Singapore’s largest listed companies are coming together, with 27 of the 30 Straits Times Index (STI) constituents having released some form of data informing their Scope 1, 2 or 3 emissions.
But the picture remains fuzzy, as the data is riddled with disclaimers, holes and inconsistencies — leaving little room for investors to compare one company with another, or benchmark companies against their past performance.
For one, there is little explanation behind companies’ selection of the operational control approach in determining carbon emissions boundaries.
