SINGTEL chairman Simon Israel will be named chairman and non-executive director of Singapore Post (SingPost) with effect from May 11, the group said in a Singapore Exchange filing Thursday night.
The appointment of Mr Israel confirms a report by The Business Times on Wednesday that he was a frontrunner for the post.
Mr Israel, 63, who resides in Singapore, will replace outgoing chairman Lim Ho Kee, who will not seek re-election as a director at the group's upcoming annual general meeting in July.
His appointment has received the relevant regulatory approvals, SingPost added.
"My immediate priorities are to lead the board through the completion of the corporate governance Review, review board composition and appoint a new Group CEO," Mr Israel said in a statement.
