SINGAPORE Telecommunications (Singtel) has tied up with communication solutions and services provider Ericsson to set up a centre of excellence (CoE) to facilitate the development of fifth generation mobile telephony (5G) technology and its deployment in Singapore with an initial investment of S$2 million.

The new standard in connectivity, 5G, is expected to roll out globally from 2020 and will deliver massive connectivity, ultra-low latency, gigabit speeds, and enable advanced applications such as those used in smart cities, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality and autonomous vehicles.
