SINGAPORE Telecommunication (Singtel) will roll out its commercial Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) service from August this year, becoming the first telco to do so in Singapore. The telco's existing 4G ClearVoice users with a VoWiFi-supported phone will be able to enjoy the service in Singapore.

VoWiFi allows users to make voice calls and text at any WiFi hotspot which the user has access to, including in their homes, Singtel Premium WiFi and Wireless@SG locations islandwide. Singtel Premium WiFi is currently available at more than 800 hotspots in locations such as MRTs, malls, food courts - with more F&B (food and beverages) locations planned in the near future. The service will, however, be limited to only those users who have the latest generation smartphones as they are the only ones that have VoWiFi calling capabilities.
