EY HAS named six recipients of the 21st EY Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2022 Singapore awards to represent Singapore at the annual EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) in 2023. This year’s category winners are:

    •  Lim Wai Mun, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Doctor Anywhere, winner in the healthcare services category; • Akshay Garg, co-founder and group CEO of FinAccel, winner in the financial technology category; • Julian Ng, CEO and executive director of Grand Venture Technology, winner in the advanced manufacturing category; • Kane Black, CEO of Inex Innovate, winner in the biotechnology category; • Jonathan Lim, CEO of Oddle, winner in the food and beverage solutions category; and • Melissa Tan, CEO of Wah & Hua, winner in the environmental solutions category.

In a press statement Monday (Oct 17), professional services firm EY said the winners were chosen from close to 140 nominations by an independent judging panel. They were selected according to their merits in fulfilling four globally benchmarked criteria, namely: entrepreneurial spirit, growth, purpose and impact.

“Despite coming from different backgrounds and fields, the winners are all driven by a distinctive sense of purpose and passion… They have also shown strong business acumen and clear strategic vision, through capitalising successfully on emerging opportunities catalysed by digitalisation and new market demands, as well as continuing to expand their presence locally and regionally,” commented Lam Yi Young, chairperson of the judging panel as well as CEO of the Singapore Business Federation.

In his view, many of the winning entrepreneurs this year create new customers and revenue streams with their disruptive and innovative business models and use of technology.

“Whether they were inspired by their life and career experiences or frustrations with current market and service gaps, the winning entrepreneurs have been bold to seize opportunities, challenge status quo and innovate for change, demonstrating compelling growth journeys and ambitions that make them unstoppable,” he added.

The six category winners will compete with contenders from over 60 jurisdictions at the upcoming WEOY, with Singapore’s representative to the WEOY award to be announced at the EY EOY Awards Gala on Nov 29.

Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong will be present at the gala as the event’s guest of honour.

Two other honorary awards have also been conferred for Asean entrepreneurial excellence and family business excellence, respectively.

Keeree Kanjanapas, chairman of Thai conglomerate BTS Group Holdings, was named winner of the EY Asean Entrepreneurial Excellence award, which recognises successful South-east Asian businesses for their contributions to the region’s economy and community. Recipients of this honorary award do not compete for the EOY Singapore 2022 title.

In another honorary award, Singapore-based food solutions provider Agrocorp International was named recipient of the EY Family Business Award of Excellence. The recipient was jointly selected by EY’s knowledge partners, Business Families Institute @ Singapore Management University and the Insead Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise.
