SMG snags women's health clinic group for S$60m

Deal to acquire Astra Women's Specialist group to expand SMG's obstetrics and gynaecology segment

PERHAPS eyeing its own version of a baby bonus, Catalist-listed specialist healthcare services group Singapore Medical Group (SMG) has proposed to buy a group of obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) clinics for S$60 million.

It has inked a deal to buy the Astra Women's Specialist group to help it expand its O&G segment, it said in a press release on Tuesday.

The announcement, released during a trading halt that started last Friday morning and was lifted in the middle of Tuesday afternoon, gave a fillip to SMG shares. The counter jumped as much as 21.9 per cent or eight Singapore cents to an intra-day high of …
