SMRT fined a record S$5.4m for July train breakdown
LTA says maintenance lapses caused the disruption, and SMRT is "fully responsible"
Singapore
THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has fined SMRT Corp S$5.4 million - the largest penalty so far - for the massive breakdown of its North-South and East-West lines on July 7.
The transport regulator has concluded that the disruption, which affected 413,000 commuters, was the result of maintenance lapses by the firm, and that SMRT was "fully responsible" for the incident.
