S'pore share buyback value fell to S$425m in 2017
Drop corresponds to stronger stock market price gains than in 2016, which saw S$826 million in repurchases

SHARE buybacks here in 2017 were carried out by fewer companies and to the tune of about half the previous year's value, according to Singapore Exchange (SGX) figures released on Thursday evening.
Some S$425 million of shares in 82 stocks was repurchased, compared with shares worth S$826 million bought back in 2016 by more than 100 Singapore-listed companies.
