TEO Siong Seng, or SS Teo, as he is known in shipping circles, describes Pacific International Lines (PIL), the business he inherits, as "a street fighter".
The box ship industry has seen massive consolidation with larger shipping lines gobbling up their smaller rivals and forming vessel-sharing alliances with one another.
But PIL, Singapore's largest private-owned container shipping line, has stayed "alliance neutral" and yet managed to emerge as the 9th largest in capacity.
