ST Engineering, Siemens Mobility win S$180m contract to renew communications system for Singapore's rail lines
A S$180 million contract for the renewal and modernisation of the communications system for Singapore's MRT and LRT lines has been awarded to a consortium of Singapore Technologies (ST) Engineering S63 : S63 0% and transport solutions company Siemens Mobility.
The renewal programme will see a replacement and upgrade of existing communications systems on the North South and East West Lines, as well as the selected stations along the Bukit Panjang LRT line - the first of its scale since the lines commenced operations more than 20 years ago, the companies announced in a joint press statement on Thursday.
The upgrading and renewal works will span over 75 locations comprising stations, interchanges, on-line substations, depots and control centres.
Once fully operational in 2029, the new communications system will further improve safety, reliability and efficiency for the rail operator, contributing to improved commuter travel experience, said the companies.
Chew Men Leong, president of urban solutions at ST Engineering said in a statement that together with Siemens Mobility, they provide deep technical and domain expertise to ensure zero disruption while deploying the new communications systems to the existing systems and train services.
"This win is testament to our smart metro capabilities, and further strengthens our global track record in helping rail operators leverage advanced technology to solve their mobility challenges," he said.
