Staff get perk immunity at some firms

SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) staff and their eligible dependents have long enjoyed a free flight to any destination on its network, a perk which the flag carrier did not take away despite Covid-19.

With travel shut down for most of 2020, SIA provided for its staff to roll over unused privilege tickets into 2021 - a standard practice under the airline's policy.

SIA isn't alone in holding on to signature employee benefits despite the uncertain business climate.

Firms and human resources (HR) consultants alike told The Business Times that it's bad form to upend nice-to-haves that workers have been accustomed to.
