StarHub to cease cable services; customers to switch to fibre networks

STARHUB is pulling the plug on its cable services, the pay-television and broadband provider has said.

Its customers must move to fibre networks by mid-2019, with cable services set to end on June 30, according to an announcement on Thursday.

Analysts said the telco is likely to feel an immediate pinch - but could otherwise reap cost savings, and even lift value in the long run.

StarHub had 471,000 home broadband customers and 438,000 pay-TV subscribers as at June 30, although it did not give a breakdown between fibre and cable network users. The Business Times understands that less tha…
