THE local stock market eked out gains on listless trading on Monday alongside other key Asian bourses following last Friday's flat showing at Wall Street.

The key Straits Times Index rose 25.62 points or 0.9 per cent to finish at 2,856.68.

Elsewhere, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.3 per cent after data showed that the country's exports fell less than expected in September. China's Shanghai Composite gained 1.2 per cent while South Korea's Kospi inched up 0.7 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up nearly one per cent.
