SINGAPORE stocks edged higher yesterday as positive US data and merger and acquisition speculation put a spring in the step of traders headed for the weekend.

The Straits Times Index added 1.41 points, or 0.04 per cent, to close at 3,325.5 - a modest yet firm gain as the market benchmark opened and stayed in positive territory throughout the session.

Yesterday was the fourth straight positive day for the market, which closed 0.3 per cent higher for the week.
