Student accommodation sector in UK a bright spot in gloomy times

It's drawing residents and investors amid a weaker pound, US-China tensions

DESPITE lingering uncertainties around Brexit, the purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) sector in the United Kingdom continues to hold promise for operators.

Strong demand from both domestic and international students is expected to remain supported, thanks partly to the quality of higher education institutes in the UK, said market observers and industry players. A major indicator for demand: the UK's 18-year-old population, is tipped to grow by an average rate of 2 per cent annually between 2020 and 2030.

At the same time, the UK Department of Education is aiming to boost the number of international students in the country by 30 per cent from the current 460,000 to 600,000 by 2030,...
