Takashimaya Singapore rises to the challenge
Department store banking on renovations, new brands, special events to drum up sales in silver jubilee year.
TAKASHIMAYA Singapore, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of its department store on Orchard Road, looks to achieve a 3 to 4 per cent increase in sales this year, after posting flat growth last year.
For the year ended Dec 31, 2017,the operator of the popular Orchard Road department store saw sales inching up 0.3 per cent or S$2 million to S$644 million from the previous year.
In both years, tourists accounted for a quarter of the store's sales - with Indonesians having the biggest share, followed by Chinese, Malaysians and Vietnamese.
