Tampines Changkat MP Desmond Choo resigns from SBS Transit’s board after Cabinet appointment
[SINGAPORE] Member of Parliament for Tampines Changkat single-member constituency (SMC) Desmond Choo resigned from the board of SBS Transit on Monday (May 26).
This follows his appointment as Minister of State for Defence last Friday. He had been an MP for Tampines GRC on the People’s Action Party ticket since the 2015 general election.
He won the SMC seat for Tampines Changkat in GE2025, after the ward was carved out of Tampines GRC. He continues to be assistant secretary-general at the National Trades Union Congress
The transport company announced in a filing on the Singapore Exchange that Choo would step down as a board member with immediate effect on Monday; he will also relinquish his membership on the board’s remuneration and nominating committee. He had been a board member of SBS Transit since April 2021.
SBS Transit said Choo provided invaluable guidance and support in helping the company navigate the changing labour and regulatory landscape of the public transport industry, especially in the areas of competency, skills enhancement and productivity.
The company announced in early April that Lim Tien Hock would no longer be its non-independent executive director from Jun 20 this year.
After that date, SBS Transit’s board will comprise nine directors, six of whom are independent non-executives; two are non-independent non-executives and one, a non-independent executive.
