WITH Singapore's declining birth rate, it isn't exactly the best time to be in the business of delivering babies. But Thomson Medical Group (TMG) which is known for its expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) and pediatrics, is forging ahead with its plans to grow its market share and to address unmet needs in the women's and children's healthcare space.

Singapore's total fertility rate (TFR) fell to a historic low of 1.1 last year, down from 1.19 in 2019. The total number of live-births in 2020 was 38,705, dipping 1.5 per cent from 39,279 the previous year.

The group's obstetrics business therefore "cannot be a growth path", TMG's executive director and group chief executive officer Wong Chiang Yin told The Business Times.
