Top Glove resolves all 11 International Labour Organization's Force Labour Indicators

TOP Glove, the world's biggest rubber glove manufacturer, on Monday said it has resolved all 11 International Labour Organization (ILO) indicators of forced labour.

The resolution of the 11 ILO indicators of forced labour has been verified by the independent international UK consultant Impactt Limited in its report dated April 22, 2021.

The indicators are abuse of vulnerability, retention of identity documents, restriction of movement, excessive overtime, abusive working and living conditions, deception, isolation, debt bondage, withholding of wages, physical and sexual violence, and intimidation.

Since July 2020, Top Glove - which is also listed on the Malaysian bourse - has been engaging Impactt to advise on measures for improving the company's labour policies and practices. This comes after a spate of labour issues, including poor accommodation and alleged forced labour, led to a ban on its gloves in the United States.

Six of the 11 indicators were fully resolved as at March this year. The remaining five are the retention of identity documents, deception, debt bondage, physical and sexual violence, and intimidation.

Top Glove noted that while the company is pleased to have resolved the ILO indicators of forced labour, it will continue its efforts to improve the welfare of its 21,000-strong workforce.
