[SINGAPORE] Airbus has joined Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) as the latest member (17th) of its Aerospace Programme (AP), a consortium of firms within the aviation industry.

Airbus's senior vice-president for research and technology, Axel Krein, said Singapore is an important research partner. "This is a step further towards growing Airbus R&T footprint globally and in the fast-growing Asian region," said Mr Krein. The company also inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the agency yesterday at the 3rd Aerospace Technology Leadership Forum to facilitate research collaboration, starting with data analytics.

Mr Krein says the developments in Big Data analytics - the process of finding patterns from examining large and complex data - will help Airbus offer its customers better operational data analysis to cut fuel consumption.
