ACCORDING to the World Shipping Council (WSC), changing global shipping from being a carbon dependent industry into "one that operates without greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions" is a "massive task".
At first glance that appears to be simply saying the obvious. The easy inference to accept is that net zero carbon and operating without GHG emissions are the same thing. They are not and that needs to be borne in mind when considering how to decarbonise.
That said the WSC, which represents the liner shipping companies, in other words the ocean container carriers, has put forward a number of proposals aimed at making a positive contribution to the discussion.
