ASIA-PACIFIC carriers saw the strongest expansion in cargo traffic at 20.8 per cent year-on-year for February, outpacing the 11.7 per cent growth experienced by the broader industry.
Growth in the region was fuelled by strong demand before the Chinese New Year season and by Japanese car manufacturers, who opted for air cargo to ship parts across the Pacific amid congestion at major US sea ports. Following a recall of faulty cars in the US, car makers such as Toyota and Honda had to ship defective parts by air freight to the US.
