Better news on piracy, but hold the yo-ho-ho

THERE have been two items of good news about the global fight against piracy recently. When I say "good", in both cases it is really a matter of being not quite as awful as it was.
So the acquitted and release just before Christmas by an Indian Appeal Court of the 35 seafarers and armed guards from the anti-piracy ship Seaman Guard Ohio (SGO), who were serving five-year prison sentences after being convicted on arms-smuggling charges, was undoubtedly good news for the men themselves and their families.
But they should never have been in that awful situation at all. By the time they were freed, they were nearly two years into their sentences.
