Big changes underway in bunker business

SINGAPORE leads the world in regulating the marine fuel business but global challenges are set to bring more uncertainty.
The new year started with a flurry of announcements from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) that relate to bunkering. And it was all positive news. The world's biggest bunker port saw total bunker sales of 48.6 million tonnes last year, up from 45.2 million tonnes in 2015. That of course is good news, and possibly slightly surprising given the demise of a major liner company, Hanjin Shipping.
The other pieces of news concern moves that are intended to improve the level of service customers can expect when bunkering in Singapore.
