Bus, MRT fares may fall at next price review

THE next public transport fare review exercise in Singapore, which is due to take place at the end of 2015, could well see the prices of bus and MRT rides adjusted downwards. This reduction, which could be "in the region of negative one per cent", is due to the drop in energy prices in 2014, said Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew in parliament on Monday.
He added that this was based on the current available data, and that the full data for 2014 was not yet ready. Mr Lui was replying to a question posed by MP Gan Thiam Poh (Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC), who asked if the Public Transport Council (PTC) - now in the midst of carrying out the 2014 fare review exercise - would consider reducing fares as a result of the fall in oil prices since June 2014.
