Car COE premiums up; other categories down

THE first certificate of entitlement (COE) bidding exercise for May ended mixed, with passenger car premiums rising but the other categories falling.

Category A - for cars below 1,600cc and 130 hp - rose S$589 to S$47,889, while Cat B - for cars above 1,600cc or 130 hp - climbed S$1,408 to S$51,010.

But Cat E - the open category which currently tracks Cat B - dipped S$501 to S$49,000.

Cat C - for goods vehicles - and Cat D - for motorcycles - were also lower, sliding S$700 to S$42,302 and S$199 to S$6,302 respectively.

The increases were expected, said the managing director of a luxury dealership, given the strong orders collected at the recent TheCars@Expo.
