Changi Airport's operating indicators for Sept down; small rise for first three quarters

OPERATING indicators for Singapore Changi Airport went down across the board in September.

A total of 4.25 million passenger movements were registered during the month, a decline of 0.5 per cent year-on-year.

The number of aircraft landings and takeoffs fell by 5 per cent to 27,020.

On the cargo front, 147,800 tonnes of airfreight were processed during the month, 2.7 per cent lower than a year before.

During the month, traffic to South Asia and North-east Asia grew 11 per cent and 2 per cent respectively, but traffic to regions such as South-east Asia, Africa and the Americas dipped. Among Changi Airport's top 10 country markets, India registered double-digit growth, while traffic to China and Thailand fell 6 per cent and 9 per cent respectively year on year.

Slight growth was registered for the first three quarters of the year. Some 40.09 million passengers travelled through the airport, 0.9 per cent more than the corresponding period in 2013. Aircraft movements moved in tandem, growing by 0.6 per cent to 255,260. During the same period, cargo shipments totalled 1.37 million tonnes, a growth of 0.3 per cent.

Jakarta continued to top the list of Changi Airport's busiest routes this year, followed by Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Manila. Traffic to and from Denpasar-Bali registered more than 20 per cent growth in the first nine months, the biggest jump among Changi Airport's top 10 destinations.
