THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Singapore) a S$90 million contract to build Canberra MRT station on the North-South Line.
Located between Sembawang and Yishun stations, Canberra station is to be the second MRT station in Singapore to be built on an existing rail line. It is slated for completion in 2019, and will cut down travel time towards the city centre and Jurong East by up to 10 minutes.
It will serve commuters living in estates such as Sembawang Springs, in addition to upcoming public and private residential developments in the area.
China State Construction Engineering is also currently working on the Downtown Line 3 Kaki Bukit and Geylang Bahru stations.
