China's Yantian port hit by delays worse than those in Suez Canal incident; MTI says disruptions to Singapore 'manageable'
Singapore
SINGAPORE companies could experience a delay of over two weeks in shipments from southern China, where a severe maritime crisis is taking place. The city-state, however, expects disruption to food supplies to be "manageable" and is working with local companies to tackle possible hits to supply chain.
Major shipping carriers have reported longer waiting times since late May to berth at Yantian port in China, where the delays affecting both imports and exports are said to be worse than that caused by the Suez Canal blockage. The facility in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen has come under strict measures to stem Covid-19 infections, and so is operating at less than half its normal levels.
