Conferences are the obvious answer
Those that limit capacity will control the related problems of overcapacity, volatility and thin profits
LAST week, I mentioned that I supposed it to be politically incorrect to even whisper that we would have all been much better off if the liner conference system had been allowed to continue.
Coincidentally, it has now been announced that Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang has decided extend the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) Order (BEO) for another five years until Dec 31, 2020.
The decision has been welcomed by the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and is in line with a recommendation made to the Ministry by the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS).
