THIS summer, British cruise line Cunard is marking the 175th anniversary of its inaugural trans-Atlantic voyage by recreating that Liverpool-to-Boston voyage - but on its modern ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, instead of a paddleboat steamer.
Historians and entertainers on board will transport passengers back in time; parties, dinners, performances and lectures crowd the programme during the voyage from Liverpool to Halifax in Nova Scotia and in Boston. The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts will present a historical tribute. A Red, Black and Gold Ball will be held, and maritime historian Bill Miller, Chris Crowe of the Royal Astronomical Society and Stephen Payne, a designer of the Queen Mary 2, will regale passengers.
