Drones grounded by US after predator is ditched off California

[WASHINGTON] Drones used to monitor US borders and ports were grounded after an operator ditched one of the unmanned aircraft off the California coast due to a mechanical failure.

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) craft went into the Pacific Ocean about 11:15pm local time on Jan 27 around 32 kilometres southwest of San Diego, Michael Friel, an agency spokesman, said on Tuesday.
