EZ-Link launches accounts-based system
ERP charges to be paid with credit card linked to vehicle IU. Service may later be used for carpark fees, retail
Singapore
SINGAPORE commuters have been relying on their ez-link cards to pay for their bus and train rides for 15 years, but cashless-payment services provider EZ-Link does not see its future in these cards. Its chief, Nicholas Lee, said the company is instead shifting its focus to a back-end, post-paid, cardless system that will be the core of its future operations.
For a start, EZ-Pay, the new service launched on Tuesday, will be put to use to pay Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges. This means motorists need only link their in-vehicle units (IUs) to their credit cards to be able to drive through ERP gantries without having stored-value cards in their IUs.
