A NEW book has just landed on my desk, Cyber Security Workbook for On Board Ship Use. The associated advertising blurb says it is a "practical, straightforward and easy to understand guide to support the master and the ship's crew with cyber security risk management".
It has been put together by shipping organisations BIMCO and International Chamber of Shipping and is published by nautical specialist Witherbys. Along with detailed guidance on all aspects of cyber security protection, defence and response, the book contains "comprehensive checklists" intended to assist with the day-to-day management of onboard cyber security.
Using detailed, step-by-step checklists, it is aimed at providing a ship's crew with the practical skills to identify cyber risks and to protect vulnerable onboard systems. It also gives guidance on how best to detect, respond and recover in the event of a cyber attack.
