Grab to launch ride-sharing service between Johor Bahru and Singapore
RIDE-BOOKING platform Grab announced a new service for people commuting between Johor Bahru and Singapore, on Monday.
The GrabHitch Johor Bahru-Singapore Inter-Country Service will be available for booking from June 20.
GrabHitch, a carpooling service, is designed for regular drivers with extra space in their vehicles to pick up fellow passengers who share similar routes or destinations, the company said.
The fare for a GrabHitch ride, which is shown upfront, is calculated based on the distance of the ride and a fixed cross-border surcharge. According to Grab, the service averages around S$12 or RM36 for a round trip.
Rides booked in Johor Bahru and Singapore will be charged in the respective country's currency, based on the pick-up location.
Passengers can pre-book rides up to seven days in advance, and up to 30 minutes before the pick-up time by selecting a pick-up and drop-off location. Drivers and passengers will be notified when a successful match of the route is made.
From June 20 to Aug 20, passengers can get S$5 off all weekday Singapore-to-Johor Bahru trips that exceed 10 kilometres by entering the promo code "hitch2jb" when making a booking.
